7 August - Siren Nights

Iestyn Edwards ~ XR ‘Red People’ ~ 'The Climate Sofa' ~ Silent Disco

Our Aldeburgh Jubilee Hall undersea world festival backdrop is the setting for our multi-artist cabaret evening of heart-stirring music, performance, inspiration and laughter. Huge thanks to Iestyn, and our other performers, for appearing gratis to support the Siren cause.

Explore every emotion tonight! When the free daytime festival closes it reopens for business with evening ticketed performances and a great line-up of performers giving their time and skills for free for the cause. Huge thanks to Seafolk Arts for stage equipment, audio, sound engineering and masses of help!

7.00pm - Red People
Performances from Extinction Rebellion's 'Red People' are totally silent. “We just want it to be emotive and to have a message without having to explain it; the idea was that you would almost empathically feel and understand the situation, which is the power of art. We wanted to embody that ethos and convey our non-violence emotively.” They’re like spirits coming back from beyond the grave, here to warn the living of the grave errors they’re making.

7.15pm - 'The Climate Sofa'
No, not a band, but and 'in conversation' with some brilliant local climate activists.

7.30pm - Iestyn Edwards
Madame Galina Ballet Star Galactica takes the classic ‘I need a volunteer from the audience’ conceit and knocks seven bells out of it. She is brilliantly 'supported' by Iestyn Edwards, baritone and teller of tallish tales, with his wide song repertoire and tales of touring variety venues with his Welsh country and western singer father and failed operatic and stage psychic mother. He is the author of the best-selling memoir of Madame Galina in Iraq and Afghanistan: My Tutu Went AWOL. Interactive, high energy, with spectacular ballet, a world class baritone and a barrage of one-liners.
‘A tour de force, irrepressible variety turn!’ The Sun
'Spot on...essential viewing.' Evening Standard
'The audience howled with laughter.' The Times

8.30pm-9.00pm - interval

9.00pm-10.30pm - Silent Disco
Wireless headphones, neon face paint and top tunes with a cheesy sea theme …what more could you want? Bring your - optional - sea-themed costumes for a chance to be crowned Queen Mermaid or King Prawn for the night.
